Right. This one’s for the strawberry lovers who like their cake neat and square.
Not round – square. Sharp edges, clean slices, and a modern look. But inside? Soft, fluffy vanilla sponge packed with real strawberry pieces and a layer of homemade strawberry compote. Covered in pale pink buttercream and topped with fresh strawberry slices. It’s a square full of summer – even in winter.
Someone asked me a while back: “can you make a strawberry cake that’s square? I’m tired of round cakes. And please, real strawberries – not that fake pink stuff. We’re in Catford.”
I said yeah, course. I made a light vanilla sponge, folded in chopped fresh strawberries, layered it with strawberry compote, and covered it in pale pink buttercream. Then I piled fresh strawberry slices on top. She ate two slices. That’s a win.
So here it is: Strawberry Square Cake – available for delivery and collection across Bromley, Downham, Grove Park, Sydenham, Catford & Bellingham.
It’s a square cake, about 7 inches. Feeds 6–10 people. Perfect for a summer birthday, afternoon tea, baby shower, anniversary, or any time you want a cake that’s fresh, fruity, and a little bit different.
What’s in it?
Sponge – light vanilla with real chopped strawberries folded into the batter. You get little juicy bursts in every bite. No jam – real fruit.
Filling – a generous layer of homemade strawberry compote (just strawberries and a little sugar – no pectin, no weird stuff) between the sponges.
Frosting – pale pink buttercream or whipped cream – you choose. Whipped cream is lighter, buttercream is richer.
The square shape – sharp edges, easy to slice into neat squares. Looks fresh and modern.
The look – a pile of fresh strawberry slices on top, arranged in a spiral or a neat pattern. Plus a dusting of icing sugar and a few mint leaves if you want.
It’s the cake for people who say “I don’t like cake” but then eat two slices of this. Because it’s light, fruity, and not too sweet.
Who buys this?
Summer birthday cake – strawberries are best June–August.
Afternoon tea cake – light and fruity, perfect with tea.
Baby shower cake – pink and pretty.
Anniversary cake – fresh and romantic.
Just because – you want real strawberries, not artificial flavouring.
Honestly? Anyone who’s tired of fake strawberry taste and round cakes.
Can I get a different berry?
Raspberry works beautifully too. Or mixed berries. But strawberry is the star here.
Can I add a message or name?
Course. “Happy Birthday”, “Sweet Sixteen”, their name – I’ll pipe it in white or pink on the side.
How much notice?
Few days if you can. I need to get the freshest strawberries. Order online or message me – I’ll be honest.
Collection or delivery?
Collect from our Bromley shop or get local delivery to Downham, Grove Park, Sydenham, Catford, Bellingham – all within easy reach.
One thing to mention…
The fresh strawberries on top are best eaten the same day – they go soft after a day. The strawberry compote is made with real fruit, so it’s softer than jam – that’s the good stuff. Also, the square shape has corners – careful when carrying it.
Right. That’s the Strawberry Square Cake done.
For the people who know that real strawberries make everything better. And that square is the new round – delivered right to your door in Bromley, Downham, Grove Park, Sydenham, Catford, or Bellingham.
