Right. This one’s for the orange lovers.
Not orange flavour from a bottle – real orange. Zest, juice, maybe even a little slice of candied orange on top. This cake is bright, zesty, and unapologetically citrusy. It’s a square cake – because squares are modern and slice neatly – and it’s packed with fresh orange flavour. No artificial stuff. Just butter, sugar, eggs, flour, and a whole lot of oranges.
Someone asked me a while back: “can you make a cake that tastes like a juicy orange? Not too sweet, with real zest. Square shape would be great. We’re in Catford.”
I said yeah, course. I made a light vanilla sponge with lots of orange zest and fresh orange juice, then filled it with a tangy orange curd and covered it in a pale orange buttercream. She said it tasted like sunshine. That’s a win.
So here it is: Square Orange Cake – available for delivery and collection across Bromley, Downham, Grove Park, Sydenham, Catford & Bellingham.
It’s a square cake, about 7 inches. Feeds 6–10 people. Perfect for a summer birthday, spring celebration, Mother’s Day, afternoon tea, or any time you want a cake that’s bright, fresh, and not too heavy.
What’s in it?
Sponge – orange zest and fresh orange juice folded into a light, fluffy vanilla batter. You can smell the citrus as soon as you open the box.
Filling – a layer of homemade orange curd (tangy, silky, and packed with real orange flavour). Or you can have a simple orange buttercream – your choice.
Frosting – pale orange buttercream, smooth and creamy. I can also do a white buttercream with orange zest on top – you decide.
The square shape – sharp edges, neat slices. Looks modern and clean.
The look – a few thin slices of candied orange on top, maybe a dusting of icing sugar, and a sprinkle of orange zest. Simple but stunning.
It’s the cake that makes you pucker just a little, then smile. Because real orange is a little bit sharp and a whole lot of delicious.
Who buys this?
Summer birthday cake – fresh and bright, perfect for warm days.
Mother’s Day cake – mums love citrus and pretty things.
Afternoon tea cake – pairs beautifully with Earl Grey.
Just because – you want a cake that’s different from lemon or chocolate.
Orange lover’s cake – for anyone who eats oranges every day.
Honestly? Anyone who’s tired of lemon and wants a different citrus kick.
Can I get a different citrus?
I can do a mix of orange and lemon, or even grapefruit. But orange is the star here.
Can I add a message or name?
Course. “Happy Birthday”, “Mum”, “Zesty” – I’ll pipe it in white or dark chocolate.
Can I get a chocolate orange version?
Yes. I can add chocolate chips to the sponge or a chocolate ganache filling – chocolate and orange are a classic combo. Just ask.
How much notice?
Few days if you can. Order online or message me – I’ll be honest.
Collection or delivery?
Collect from our Bromley shop or get local delivery to Downham, Grove Park, Sydenham, Catford, Bellingham – all within easy reach.
One thing to mention…
The orange curd is quite tangy – if you prefer something sweeter, go for a plain orange buttercream. The cake is best eaten within a couple of days – the citrus stays bright. Also, the candied orange slices are edible and delicious.
Right. That’s the Square Orange Cake done.
For the people who believe that orange deserves a place in the cake world, right next to lemon. And that a square cake can be zesty, bright, and full of sunshine – delivered right to your door in Bromley, Downham, Grove Park, Sydenham, Catford, or Bellingham.
