Right. This one’s for the people who love chocolate and berries together – but not too sweet, not too rich. Just right.
You know that moment when you bite into a dark chocolate brownie and then a burst of tart, juicy raspberry cuts through? That’s this cake. A deep, dark chocolate sponge (not too sweet, proper cocoa flavour), layered with a fresh berry compote and a light chocolate ganache, then topped with a pile of fresh strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries. It’s chocolaty, it’s fruity, and it’s not going to put you in a sugar coma.
Someone asked me a while back: “can you make a cake that’s chocolate but not too heavy? With fresh berries, not jam. For my mum’s birthday. She’s in Downham.”
I said yeah, course. I made a dark chocolate sponge, layered it with a quick berry compote and a thin chocolate ganache, then covered it in a light chocolate buttercream and piled fresh berries on top. She ate two slices. That’s a win.
So here it is: Chocolaty Berry Cake – available for delivery and collection across Bromley, Downham, Grove Park, Sydenham, Catford & Bellingham.
It’s a round cake, about 7 inches. Feeds 6–10 people. Perfect for a birthday, anniversary, summer party, baby shower, or any time you want a cake that’s both indulgent and fresh.
What’s in it?
Sponge – rich dark chocolate. Not too sweet – I use good quality cocoa and a bit of coffee powder to deepen the flavour. It’s moist, dark, and proper chocolate.
Filling – a layer of fresh berry compote (raspberries, blackberries, or a mix – just berries and a little sugar, cooked down until jammy but still with chunks). And a thin layer of dark chocolate ganache for extra creaminess.
Frosting – light chocolate buttercream or a whipped chocolate ganache – you choose. Whipped is airier, buttercream is richer.
The berries – a generous pile of fresh strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries on top, plus a few tucked between the layers.
The look – dark chocolate, glossy ganache, and bright red and blue berries. It’s a beautiful contrast – and tastes even better than it looks.

One thing to mention…
The fresh berries on top are best eaten the same day – they go soft after a day. The compote is made with real fruit, so it’s a little looser than jam – that’s the good stuff. Also, this cake is not overly sweet – if you have a real sweet tooth, let me know and I can add a drizzle of white chocolate.

Product Life After Purchase
Our fresh cream cakes have a fridge shelf life of 24 hours and should be consumed within this time. For best results, place the cake in the refrigerator within 45 minutes (maximum 2 hours) of purchase and store at a temperature between 2°C and 5°C.
Refund Policy
We do not offer refunds for cancellations made within 24 hours of the scheduled collection or delivery time. Refunds are also not provided for failed deliveries or cakes that remain uncollected for any reason.

The delivery drivers aim to deliver your order within the selected time slot. However, delays may occur due to circumstances beyond our control, such as traffic. If this happens, we will try to contact you using the phone number you provided.
When the driver arrives, they will knock or ring the bell. If there is no response, they will attempt to call you. If still unanswered, the order will be returned to our store. In such cases, you will need to contact us to arrange redelivery (charged at our standard delivery rate) or collect your order from our store free of charge. Delivery charges are non-refundable.
If you miss your scheduled delivery day and request a refund or a replacement cake for the next day, an additional charge will apply.
For flats or apartment buildings, we kindly ask that you meet the driver at the main entrance.
On receiving your order, please check your cake carefully, especially the written message and its condition. Any damage must be reported immediately. Please take clear photos, inform the driver, and refuse the delivery if necessary. Once a delivery is accepted and the driver has left, it becomes more difficult for us to investigate. As we work with third-party couriers, minor imperfections may occur. While we strive to fulfil every order with care, we ask for your understanding of slight damages. If your cake arrives in poor condition, please take photos and return it with the driver to the store for a refund.
