Right so you remember the full strawberry cake? The one I was on about? The one that's proper seasonal because strawberries have opinions about when they want to taste good?
Yeah. This is that. Just in slice form.
Sometimes you don't need a whole cake.
Maybe you're just passing through Bromley and you fancy something. Something light. Something fruity. Maybe you've had a heavy lunch and want something that doesn't put you in a sugar coma. Maybe you just want to try it before ordering a big one for something.
Whatever it is. Slices are here and honestly when strawberries are good? This one's unbeatable.
Here's what you're getting.
Vanilla sponge first. Nice and light. Fluffy. Real vanilla because the fake stuff would be a crime against the strawberries. Then we soak it. Just a tiny bit. With strawberry juice if we've got it. Keeps everything moist.
Then the strawberry buttercream. This bit's the star. Vanilla buttercream with actual strawberry puree mixed through. Not flavouring. Not essence. Real strawberries blitzed up and folded in. So it's slightly pink. Slightly fruity. Tastes like real strawberries because it is real strawberries.
Between the layers? Fresh strawberry chunks.
Chopped up. Not whole because that would be impossible to cut through nicely. Little pieces of actual strawberry so every bite gets some.
On top we keep it pretty.
Smooth strawberry buttercream. Then fresh strawberry slices arranged nicely. Maybe a whole strawberry half if it's a good one. Sometimes a sprinkle of something fancy but mostly just let the strawberries speak for themselves.
Who's buying these slices?
Summer people. The ones who live for June July August.
Wimbledon fans. Seriously. When tennis is on these go mad.
People who want something light instead of heavy chocolate.
Honestly? Older ladies love this one. They come in for coffee and this is their treat.
Me. On a warm day. Hits different.
If you're in Bromley pop in and grab one but fair warning they're seasonal. When strawberries are good they're amazing. When strawberries are rubbish? I don't make them. Not worth it. If you're making a special trip maybe message ahead and check.
Or order online for collection or local delivery. Whatever works.
One thing I should mention. The fresh strawberries on top won't last forever. Like a day maybe two then they start going soft. Still fine to eat just not as pretty. The cake itself keeps fine but the fruit does what fruit does.
Also the strawberry flavour is proper. It's subtle. It's real. It's not that synthetic loud strawberry taste from cheap sweets. If you want actual strawberry? This is it.
Right. That's the strawberry slice done.
Proper summer cake. Tastes like sunshine sort of.
