Maybe you already did a gender reveal and it went perfectly. Maybe you’re having another baby and want to do it all over again. Or maybe you just love the suspense of cutting into a cake and seeing pink or blue. Whatever the reason, this is the cake for that moment. A soft, fluffy sponge – white on the outside, total mystery on the inside. You cut. You see the colour. Everyone cheers. It’s simple, it’s emotional, and it’s delicious.

Someone asked me a while back: “can you do another gender reveal cake for my second baby? We want the same white exterior, but can you make the sponge pink if it’s a girl, blue if it’s a boy? We’re in Catford.”

I said yeah, course. I made a vanilla cake, coloured the sponge either pink or blue, covered it in white buttercream, and added a little question mark on top. They cut it, saw pink, and cried. That’s a win.

It’s a round cake, about 7 inches. Feeds 6–10 people. Perfect for a gender reveal party, baby shower, second baby celebration, or any time you want to share the surprise with family and friends.

What’s in it?

• Sponge – vanilla or white chocolate. I add pink or blue gel colour to the batter – soft pastel, not neon. You tell me which colour, and I keep it secret from the guests.

• Frosting – white buttercream on the outside. Smooth, clean, no hints. I can also add a question mark, “Boy or Girl?”, or a little pink and blue sprinkles on top – but the inside colour stays hidden.

• The reveal – when you cut the cake, the inside colour tells you everything. Pink for girl, blue for boy. You can also ask for a different colour – green for “surprise”, purple for twins, etc.

• The look – elegant and mysterious. White on the outside, a burst of colour inside.

It’s the cake that’s as much about the moment as the taste. And it tastes great – because even if the result isn’t what you expected, cake is always good.

Can I get a different inside colour?

Yes. Green for “surprise”, purple for twins, or even a mix of pink and blue for both. Just tell me.

Can I add a message or name on top?

Course. “Boy or Girl?”, “Oh Baby!”, “Baby No. 2” – I’ll pipe it in white or a neutral colour.

Can I get a different flavour sponge?

Vanilla is the classic – it shows the colour best. But I can do strawberry (pink inside already) or lemon. Just ask.

One thing to mention…

The inside colour is a secret – even I don’t know if you don’t tell me. I just add the colour you ask for. Also, the colour is made with food gel – no weird taste. And the cake is white on the outside, so the surprise is total.
