Right so you remember the full mango cake? The exotic one I was telling you about? The one that came about because someone's mum was absolutely obsessed with mangoes?
Yeah. This is that. Just in slice form.
Sometimes you don't need a whole cake do you.
Maybe you're just passing through Bromley and you fancy something. Something fruity. Something a bit different from the usual chocolate situation. Maybe you've never tried mango cake before and want to see what it's all about. Maybe you have tried it and you just want a little hit without committing to a big one.
Whatever the reason. Slices exist and honestly they're perfect for that afternoon moment when you need something.
Here's what you're getting.
Light vanilla sponge first. Nice and simple. Lets the mango do the talking. Then we soak it. Just a tiny bit. With mango puree. Keeps everything moist and adds that little extra hit of flavour.
Then the mango buttercream. This bit's the star. Real mango puree mixed through. Not flavouring. Not essence. Actual mango. So it's fruity and sweet but not too sweet. Slightly tropical. That peachy orangey colour comes from the mango itself. No artificial stuff.
Between the layers? Sometimes little bits of mango if they're in season. Depends on the time of year.
On top we keep it pretty.
Smooth mango buttercream. Then maybe a little drizzle of something. Sometimes fresh mango pieces if they're good. Sometimes dried mango for texture. Depends what I've got and what's looking nice.
Who's buying these slices?
People who want something lighter than chocolate.
Summer walk-ins on a hot day. Hits different when it's warm out.
Honestly? Desi customers love this one. Mango is such a big thing in South Asian culture. Makes sense.
People who've had the full cake before and now they're hooked.
Me when I want something that feels a bit tropical.
If you're in Bromley just pop in and grab one. But mango's a seasonal thing really. When they're good they're amazing. When they're not? I might not have them. If you're making a special trip maybe message ahead and check.
Or order online for collection or local delivery. Whatever works.
One thing I should mention. The mango flavour is proper. It's not like those synthetic mango sweets that taste sort of like mango but also sort of like perfume. This is real. So if you're expecting that really intense artificial hit it might be more subtle. But if you want actual mango taste? Yeah. This is it.
Also fresh mango on top won't last forever.
Best eaten same day if it's got fresh pieces. The cake itself keeps fine but the fruit goes soft. Still tastes okay just not as pretty.
Right. That's the mango slice done.
Tropical little number. Perfect for summer or just pretending it's summer.
