Product Description

I'll be honest with you about something.

When I first started baking properly, I used to think vanilla was boring. Like it was the default option. The one you picked when nothing else sounded good. The safe choice. I wanted to make exciting cakes with lots going on. Big flavours. Lots of layers. Stuff that grabbed attention.

Then one day someone ordered a vanilla cake for their mum's birthday. Simple one. No fuss. And I thought right I'll knock one out quick no bother.

Turns out making a proper vanilla cake is actually really really hard.

You can't hide behind other flavours. Can't distract people with chocolate or fruit or booze. It's just... vanilla. So everything has to be spot on. The sponge has to be light but not crumbly. Moist but not wet. And the vanilla has to be there but not overpowering. It's a balance.

Took me ages to get it right if I'm honest. Made some rubbish ones along the way. Dry ones. Dense ones. One that tasted weirdly of nothing which is almost impressive really. But eventually I landed on this recipe and honestly? It's the one I'm proudest of.

So what's actually in it?

Good butter. Not the cheap spreadable stuff. Real butter. Eggs. Sugar. Flour. And proper vanilla. Not the fake stuff that tastes like chemicals. Good vanilla extract that smells amazing when you open the bottle. Plus the seeds scraped out of actual vanilla pods because why not go all in.

The buttercream is simple too. Butter. Icing sugar. More vanilla. Milk to get the right texture. Whipped until it's smooth and fluffy and just melts when you eat it.

No fancy decorations usually unless you want them.

Most people keep it simple. Smooth buttercream all over. Maybe some sprinkles. Maybe some fresh berries if they're feeling fancy. But the cake itself does the talking really. It doesn't need much.

Who's buying this one?

  • Honestly? Everyone eventually. It's the cake people come back to after trying all the fancy ones.

  • Older relatives who "don't like all that modern stuff" bless them.

  • Kids who just want something simple for their birthday.

  • People having afternoon tea and wanting something classic.

  • Honestly me sometimes. Late at night with a cup of tea. No judgement.

If you're in Bromley you can order online and come grab it whenever. Or if you want it delivered local just drop us a message. Couple days notice is always nice but vanilla's pretty straightforward so if you're in a rush just ask.

One thing I should mention. It's not gonna blow your mind with crazy flavours or weird combinations. It's just a really really good vanilla cake. The sort that makes you go "oh right THAT'S what vanilla's supposed to taste like." Simple but done properly.

Right. That's the classic one done.

Nothing fancy. Just perfect.
